One Faith · One Church
St Mary’s is part of a worldwide Catholic family: rooted in Chorley, united with the Archdiocese of Liverpool and in communion with the Holy Father and the Universal Church.

The Pope is the Bishop of Rome and successor of St Peter, serving as a visible sign of unity for Catholics throughout the world.
Pope Leo XIV, born Robert Francis Prevost in Chicago, was elected as the 267th Pope of the Catholic Church on 8 May 2025. An Augustinian priest and former missionary bishop in Peru, he took the name Leo XIV on his election to the See of Peter.
St Mary’s is united in prayer and communion with the Holy Father, together with Catholics across every nation and culture.
St Mary’s belongs to the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Liverpool, one of the historic Catholic dioceses serving the north west of England and the Isle of Man.
The Archdiocese is led by the Most Reverend John Sherrington, who was installed as the tenth Archbishop of Liverpool on 27 May 2025, succeeding Archbishop Malcolm McMahon OP.
From the Metropolitan Cathedral of Christ the King in Liverpool, the Archbishop shepherds the archdiocese together with its priests, deacons, religious and lay faithful.

Within the Archdiocese, parishes are grouped together so that neighbouring Catholic communities can support one another in worship, mission and pastoral life.
