HEALTH AND SAFETY
The Health and Safety at Work Act 1974 and the Health and Safety Framework Directive 89/391/EEC defines the fundamental structure and authority for encouragement, regulation and enforcement of workplace health, safety and welfare for those that work and use our parishes. The Archdiocese of Liverpool is implementing legislation and promotes and develops excellence in all areas of Health and Safety.
In 2013 Kevin Harvey was appointed as the Parish H&S Coordinator. Kevin has over 30 years experience in the construction industry, BSc in Building Surveying, NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Health and Safety and NEBOSH National Certificate in Construction Health and Safety.
As the Health and Safety Lead for the Archdiocese, Kevin is implementing all appropriate H&S legislation and good practices, undertaking periodic audits and reviews of health and safety, well being of peronnel and systems within individual parishes, providing training, assistance, and where necessary, investigating incidents, accidents and cases of work related ill health.
Periodically, Health & Safety newsletters will discuss current issues for parishes to consider.
Kevin also liaises with HM Inspectorates such as the Health and Safety Executive and the Environment Agency and deals with investigating authorities on health and safety issues, incidents, accidents and complaints.
Any accident, incident or ‘near miss’ (an accident that could have resulted in an injury), must be recorded in the parish accident book and Kevin Harvey must be informed as soon as practicable.
